Training for Intervention ProcedureS
Responsible Serving of Alcohol
Program Overview
The program was created by Dr. Morris Chafetz. According to TIPS, “TIPS is a dynamic, skills-based training program designed to prevent intoxication, drunk driving and underage drinking by enhancing the fundamental “people skills” of servers, sellers and consumers of alcohol. TIPS gives individuals the knowledge and confidence they need to recognize potential alcohol-related problems and intervene to prevent alcohol-related tragedies.” The program was created to “give bartenders and waiters the skills and confidence they need to prevent their customers from becoming intoxicated.”
Who Should Attend
Basically, anyone who handles alcohol should be TIPS certified. This includes bartenders, servers, and bar backs as well as their supervisors, managers, and hotel security. Many insurance companies require hotels to be TIPS certified. Many brand audits also require certification.
